Students and the First Amendment
An introduction to religion, speech, and association on school grounds. This interactive session is designed to introduce high school students on how courts have applied the First Amendment to them once they walk through the school house gates. Student First Amendment rights are, to say the least, controversial. School districts are charged with maintaining good order and discipline. Students do not leave all of their Constitutional rights at the school house gate. These competing interests often conflict and make for lively debate and spirited discussion. NOTE: The session can be tailored for either a traditional 50 minute or an extended block schedule period.
