What Can I Do with a Degree in History?
Students often wonder how they can utilize a degree in history. For which teaching fields does history study form the best preparation? Is training to teach history at the college level different than preparing to teach in elementary, middle, or high school? Besides teaching, what others careers are well suited to students who have studied history? This interactive session encourages students to identify specific aspects of engaging in history that they find most attractive, and links those interests with jobs that make use of individual students' academic skills.
A Chat with Queen Elizabeth I
Gloriana, the Virgin Queen, Good Queen Bess: Elizabeth I was known among the English people as a model monarch. She also is one of the best-remembered and most respected rulers in modern history. How did she construct such a positive image--an image that has lasted for centuries? How accurate are stage and screen portrayals of her, compared to the historical record? This presentation is a conversation between the audience and a costumed Elizabeth, with a special focus on the queen's interest in politics and the arts.
