This overview of the profession of social work offers students information about the diverse settings in which social workers practice, such as hospitals, schools, and social service agencies. Students hear about how social workers in all settings help people meet their goals, improve their lives and relationships, and contribute to improving their communities. Students learn about educational opportunities and requirements for entering the profession. The presentation is most appropriate for students taking courses in career planning, psychology, or sociology.
Child Abuse, Neglect, and Child Protective Services
This introduction to the topic of child maltreatment and CPS intervention will help students learn when and why families need assistance from a social agency to meet the needs of children. The presentation covers types of abuse and neglect, presents case vignettes for group discussion, and provides an overview of the kinds of work done by child protective agencies.
