Planning the Next Exciting Phase of UT Arlington's Future

Dear Students:

During the past six months, I've been on an exciting, energizing, and exhilarating journey of discovery. I've had the opportunity to meet with alumni and community leaders, the privilege of learning about the excellence and dedication of our faculty and staff, and the thrill of meeting and getting to know so many of our students.

UT Arlington is a wonderful institution—where access and excellence coexist, where excellence in teaching and research are balanced and move forward in symphony, and where true diversity is defined. UT Arlington is destined not only to rise to pre-eminence through its journey to become a Tier One institution across the board, but also to set high standards for others to follow.

It's no wonder The Chronicle of Higher Education ranked UT Arlington as the seventh fastest-growing public research university in the United States. Or that the New America Foundation described UT Arlington as a "Next Generation University"—one of only six in the country. And that U.S. News & World Report ranks UT Arlington as the fifth most diverse university in the nation. Our momentum is unstoppable.

A top priority for us this semester is to focus on strategic planning. With a theme of Forward Thinking, we are working together to answer important questions that will help us shape and define our future—and chart the path that will get us there.

I invite you to join the conversation. Please visit our Forward Thinking website, where you'll find the latest information that's emerging from the discussions and planning process. More importantly, you'll have the opportunity to submit ideas and comments that will help inform the strategic plan. You'll also be able to review and provide feedback that is being posted regularly. Your input and participation are essential to our future.

I look forward to getting to know all of you better in the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, please feel free to contact me at vkarbhari@uta.edu.

I wish each of you the best as you head into the Thanksgiving break and final exams. And for those of you graduating in December, I look forward to congratulating you personally during Commencement ceremonies at College Park Center.

Sincerely,

Vistasp M. Karbhari
