Celia Alvarez Muñoz
"Stories Your Mother Never Told You"
September 3 - October 5, 2002

detail - click for larger imageThis catalogued traveling exhibition is a twenty-year survey of Celia Alvarez Muñoz's work. Artist's books, assemblage, large-scale works, traditional photographs and new technologies blend improvised personal stories with her distinctive Chicana perspective and express the artist's adult perception in a child's voice.

According to Benito Huerta, the curator of this exhibition, "Muñoz's work has evolved over the years from her more precious books to mural-size photographs and digital prints, and in recent years, to the creation of installations. Her work is poetic and gazes into the human soul, revealing human folly while weaving in concepts of language, culture, race and feminism. Her work has projected her into the forefront of Chicano/Latino art as well as the mainstream art world."
