Steve Murphy / Linda Ridgway: Planting a Line
March 8 - April 24, 2004
Reception, Friday, March 26, 6-8:30 and Artists' Talk at 6:30 PM
This exhibition, curated by Benito Huerta, features the artists'
creative explorations in other media in conjunction with their sculptural
pieces.
Murphy,
who is from Houston, will be showing paintings and drawings along
with his three-dimensional constructions. His abstract paintings
and drawings emphasize formal elements such as line, color, texture
and shape, which create a relationship with his sculptural works.
His small pencil drawings are precise, almost architectural, renderings
that are manifested in his sculptural work.
Ridgway, who is from Dallas, will be creating a site-specific installation
incorporating drawings on the gallery wall along with her bronze
castings of floral and other organic materials. She also will be
showing unique mixed media drawings created by layering a variety
of materials on a photographic base.
A reception for the exhibition will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Friday, March 26, with Gallery Talk at 6:30 p.m. In addition, the
artists will each give a slide presentation about their work. Ridgway
will speak on Thursday, April 8, and Steve Murphy will present his
work on Thursday, April 22. Both lectures will begin at 12:30 p.m.
in room 2102A in the Fine Arts Building.
All events are free and open to the public.
The Gallery will be closed March 13 -21 for Spring Break.
