Private Collections II
March 22- April 24, 2010

Reception, Friday, September 17, 6 – 8:30 PM

ARLINGTON–The Gallery at The University of Texas at Arlington is pleased to present "Private Collections II" curated by Benito Huerta.

In 2001 Huerta curated the inaugural Private Collections exhibition for The Gallery at UTA. For Private Collections II, he visited four different collections within the DFW Metroplex and selected twenty museum-quality works to showcase. Providing a rare opportunity to see examples of artworks that experienced collectors have chosen to display in their own homes, this exhibit also seeks to illuminate the aesthetic decision-making process and the concept of private vs. public display spaces and the potential for interaction between the two.

Huerta states, "From Texas artists such as Vernon Fisher and Robyn O’Neil to international artists Louise Bourgeois and Yasumasa Morimura, this is an exciting array of works and media that should attract a wide variety of viewers to this unique exhibition. This demonstrates the richness and depth of art collecting in the local area and it is just the tip of the iceberg as far as collecting goes in the Metroplex."

Participating collectors include Susan & Claude Albritton (Dallas), Phyllis & Bob Fenton (Fort Worth), Karol Howard & George Morton (Plano) and Robyn Menter & Martin Posner (Dallas). Works shown include an eclectic assortment of modern and contemporary pieces by artists Jesse Amado, Diane Arbus, Radcliffe Bailey, Willie Birch, Louise Bourgeois, Michael Ray Charles, Chuck Close, Robert Colescott, Jim Dine, Vernon Fisher, Joseph Havel, Roy Lichtenstein, Yasumasa Morimura, Robyn O'Neil, Joseph Stashkevetch, Frank Stella, Annelies Strba, Donald Sultan, James Surls, and Andy Warhol.

In association with the exhibition, art historian, Benjamin Lima, will give a gallery talk on Wednesday, September 22 at 12 noon in The Gallery to discuss the works displayed in Private Collections II.
