"Jed" Damuth, Adjunct Professor, Dept. of
Geology and Senior Research Scientist, Earth Resource and Environment Center; Ph.D.
Columbia University, 1973. Full-time researcher in marine geology and geophysics.
Interests include: (1) Morphology and depositional processes of deep-sea bed forms; (2)
development of submarine fans and canyons; (3) seismic sequence stratigraphy and facies
analysis; (4) climatic control of deep-sea sediment deposition; (5) geologic evolution of
passive continental margins and (6) depositional processes and facies of deep-water
hydrocarbon reservoirs. Current research includes: (1) Sediment facies, architecture and
growth pattern of Amazon Deep-Sea Fan; (2) The role of mass-wasting in the development of
the continental slope and rise off the northeast United States; (3) Clastic sediment
facies, depositional processes and their relationship to sea-level fluctuations in
northern Gulf of Mexico intraslope basins; and (4) Correlation of seismic facies to ODP
sediment cores on the New Jersey continental shelf and upper slope to assess the influence
of sea-level fluctuations on sediment facies. Jed is currently on one of his
frequent ODP cruises, you might be able to catch a glimpse of him here.
