Drawn to outstanding academic disciplines, professors, student activities and career preparation, student enrollment at the University of Texas at Arlington has increased dramatically over the last several years, from 18,662 in Fall 1998 to over 25,000 in Fall 2005.  In the meantime, a dwindling percentage of UT Arlington’s operating budget comes from state appropriations.  The University and its academic programs, therefore, must rely on the generous support of alumni, friends, corporate partners, and foundations to help us meet the needs of our growing student population.  Learn more about initiatives and priorities within each of UT Arlington’s schools and colleges:

Vision
High-achieving students will herald the next generation of world-changing advancements. With one of only six Honors College in the state, The University of Texas at Arlington is taking a leading role in educating these exceptional and highly motivated scholars.

Academic Excellence
The Honors College offers a supportive, educational and culturally diverse community in which students attain excellence in academics, research and community service, leading to success in their professional careers and personal lives. Admission is competitive, and the curriculum features a special interdisciplinary emphasis at each level of the student’s academic career.

Among the college’s distinctions:

  • A team of UT Arlington Honors College students won the 2004 National Moot Court Tournament, which is hosted annually on campus.
  • The college offers a study abroad program that allows students to visit a foreign country and gain course credit.
  • The college features a Bridge to Graduate School program that provides fellowships to qualified Honors graduates who pursue graduate degrees at UT Arlington.

Students of all majors praise the college’s intimate academic setting within the larger university. “I enjoy the Honors College because it’s a tightly knit group of students who are serious about their academics,” said mechanical engineering senior Justin Glasgow. “The class sizes are small, so you get more individual attention.”

In addition to a challenging curriculum, the Honors College regularly schedules social and scholarly activities that extend its students' learning experiences beyond the classroom. These include Honors symposia, informal gatherings, lecture series, field experiences and artistic performances.

To earn an Honors degree, students must complete a thesis or creative project. This allows them to advance their research skills or perfect their crafts in their respective fields. It also affords them the valuable opportunity to work side-by-side with some of University’s most talented professors.
