Maverick Match
The Maverick Match is a special program that uses the University’s natural gas royalties to bolster philanthropic support for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, research and other endowments to enhance faculty and student recruitment and retention.

Award-winning filmmaker Ya’Ke Smith, above, is the Morgan Woodward Distinguished Professor in the College of Liberal Arts. Woodward, a longtime Hollywood actor, established the scholarship with a $250,000 gift that doubled in value through the Maverick Match program, which uses natural gas royalties to leverage new commitments.
The program leverages donor support by matching, dollar-for-dollar, all gifts of $25,000 to $500,000 that are designated for endowments. Matching funds provided by corporate matches are also eligible for The Maverick Match. To qualify for the match, all pledges must be paid out over a period of no more than five years.
Maverick Match funds are placed in the endowment at the end of each fiscal year, matching the donor’s contributions to that fund for the year. By carefully considering the timing of your gifts, you can make sure your donations qualify should Maverick Match funds for a given year be exhausted.
By establishing an endowment that qualifies for The Maverick Match, you invest in the legacy of UT Arlington while ensuring that your gift maximizes its impact and advances the University’s distinction as an academic powerhouse.
