Mentorship and Sponsorship: How to Curate Your Support Team and Guide Your Successful Career
The concept of mentorship and finding mentors can be a stressful endeavor for an early career scientist, but there are tools and a variety of mentor models that can be used to help alleviate this stress. Also understanding the difference between mentors and sponsors can help you develop these relationships. This workshop, presented by 2022-2023 Excellence in Doctoral Student Mentoring Award Winner Dr. Laura Mydlarz, will be a discussion to learn what to give and gain from your mentors and sponsors to support your own career goals. You will learn the difference between a sponsor and a mentor and how to curate and map your mentor and sponsor relationships with the eventual goal of building your support team based around your career goals.

Crafting a Winning CV and LinkedIn Profile for Academia and Industry
This live online workshop, presented by Dr. Peggy Semingson, will provide an overview on crafting a CV/resume that showcases your expertise, experience, skills, and goals. The focus will be on preparing an academic resume and preparing one that could be used in industry. Additional tips for creating and developing a LinkedIn profile that will get noticed and can be used in conjunction with your CV will also be demonstrated.

Why should I publish research articles as a grad student? How do I choose where to submit? How does the submission and peer-reviewed process work? Find out the answers to these questions and more in this practical, informative presentation. This workshop is presented by Jody Bailey, Director of Publishing, UTA Libraries.

Assess Yourself for Careers and Wellness
The first step in finding the right career is to have a strong understanding of your skills, interests, and values. This workshop, led by Rob Pearson, the Director of Graduate Career Services at UT Dallas, will engage graduate students in a self-reflective, step-by-step process to answer the big question: What do I want out of my career? The workshop will begin with an open-ended exploratory exercise and conclude with a survey of self-assessment tools available to graduate students. A light lunch will be served to registered participants.
