While no single font can represent the diverse messages communicated by UT Arlington, several font selections have been incorporated into the Style Guide.
The font used in the official stationery and business cards is Gill Sans. Gill Sans MT is a standard installed font on Windows computers, and Gill Sans is standard on Macintoshes. These are not exactly the same, so if you use Gill Sans MT in a Microsoft Word document, for example, it will not show up on a Macintosh exactly as it does on your Windows computer.
When you want to use a Bold or Italic version of a font, it’s better to use the particular variaton provided with the font, instead of clicking "B" or "I" in the font menu. You can see whether the bold or italic variation is available in the font selection drop-down list.
The web browser will only look for fonts available on the computer you're using. Since most computers will not have Gill Sans Std installed, you will need to use HTML tags or CSS markup for these variants:
HTML: <strong> or <b> for bold, and <em> or <i> for italic.
You should call the approriate Gill Sans for Windows and Mac by using this line in your Cascading Style Sheet:
{ font-family: "Gill Gans MT","Gill Sans"; }
for bold and italic, use
{ font-weight:bold; } for bold, and { font-style: italic; } for italic.

Gill Sans Std includes more variations of Gill Sans than you will find with either Gill Sans MT or Gill Sans, and is particularly well-suited for printed pieces.
Gill Sans Std is not a standard computer font, so it should not be used in Web page design.
If you have a UT Arlington NetID you may download the complete set of Gill Sans Std for your computer.
