The official UT Arlington mascot is the Maverick. It is represented visually by a line drawing of a white horse’s head outlined in orange with a blue mane. This is the only mascot approved for use by colleges, schools, departments, offices, centers, programs and other official units of UT Arlington for collateral, apparel and merchandise.
Please contact University Publications for assistance with incorporating the mascot into your print or online publication. If you have questions about proper usage of the image for merchandise or other marketing pieces, please contact Marketing Services.
Using the Mascot | About the Mascot
Do not use the word ‘Mavericks’ as the only identifier with the mascot.

For the Departments of Athletics, Student Enrollment Services, and Student Affairs (including Student Organizations) only:
These departments are permitted to use a version of the mascot incorporating the spirit logo. This must be used in its entirety and without modification.
For the sole use of the Department of Athletics, the mascot may be used in conjunction with identifiers encircling the mascot. See example to right:Ready-to-use options of the mascot are available for download.
These guidelines will be re-evaluated after 12-18 months of implementation.
As a part of the creation and launch of the University’s new brand in February 2006 – including a modernization of our logo, wordmark and tagline – students expressed interest in initiating a complementary effort to reconsider UT Arlington’s existing mascot while maintaining the “Maverick” identity. It was agreed that a student-led Mascot committee would be established and UT Arlington’s Student Congress leaders drove the process from that point forward. With on-going involvement from administrators (including Student Affairs, University Communications, Athletics and the Alumni Association), the students conducted research on other mascot programs, implemented an online campus survey which resulted in overwhelming support for a horse design, and ran a campus-wide mascot concept design contest from which four entries were selected.
These four design concepts directed further development of the mascot under the advisement of UT Arlington’s Art & Art History department chair and a group of senior design students including Rebecca Duff, the principal designer. The Mascot committee tested several options through student and alumni focus groups, which resulted in further honing the image until it was presented to the student body as a ballot item during the Spring 2007 elections. Students voted 3-to-1 to adopt the image.
