Each active fraternity/sorority on campus is required to be affiliated with one of the four (4) Governing Councils. These Governing Councils are basically the campus representatives for their respective National affiliations (which means that each of our Nationally based fraternity/sorority belong to and pay dues to the respective umbrella Council).
Interfraternity Council (IFC)
Nationally, most of the fraternities under the IFC Governing Council belong to and pay dues to the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The NIC was founded in 1909 to serve member organizations and currently has 75 member fraternities.
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
The fraternities and sororities found under this umbrella council are all traditionally African-American organizations. Founded in 1930, the National NPHC has only nine (9) member organizations.
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)
Nationally, most of the fraternities and sororities under this council are considered culturally based organizations (Latino-based, Asian interest based, multicultural focused). A majority, but not all, of the groups are members of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO).
Panhellenic Council (PHC)
Nationally, the sororities in this council belong to and pay dues to the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The NPC was founded in 1902 with 26 women’s sororities. In the 109 year history, the original 26 organizations have remained the same with no additions/removals.
