What is a Nurse Practitioner?

Among their many services, NPs:

  • Prescribe medications and other treatments; and

  • Manage a patient's care.

How much does it cost to see a provider in the General Medical Clinic?

  • Enrolled Students
You have paid a fee in your tuition to see a provider in our General Medical Clinic. This means that you may see a general medical provider unlimited times throughout the semester you are enrolled. We have other, optional services available at a low cost. GTAs, GRAs, TAs and RAs covered by UT Select are not responsible for a co-pay because it is covered by the fee paid in their tuition. Click here for more information about insurance coverage.

  • Non-registered/Non-fee-paying Students or Distance-Education Students
If you were enrolled in the previous semester but not this one, or have had your fees waived, you are eligible to use the Health Center by paying the Medical Services Fee. Non-registered students may use the Health Center for the semester immediately following the time they were enrolled. Distance Education as well as Intensive English students do not pay the Medical Services Fee in their tuition and therefore are required to pay it on their first visit per semester. If you are not a registered student this semester, we accept cash and credit card payments, but not checks.

  • Faculty/Staff
Faculty/Staff not covered by UT Select may utilize the Health Center for acute conditions such as pharyngitis, sinusitis, upper respiratory infections, etc. by paying a doctor-visit fee of $25. Ancillary services are available at low cost. If you are covered by UT Select, you may use your insurance at the Health Center and pay the co-pay for the doctor visit .

As Faculty/Staff, you are eligible to see the nurse for a blood pressure check or to fill a prescription without paying the previously-mentioned fee. We accept the University Flex Account Card for payment as well as cash and major credit cards.

Do you accept insurance for medical and prescription expenses?

  • We accept the student insurance that is offered by contract with UT System as an optional health coverage to enrolled students. We will claim this insurance for any covered expenses incurred by the patient.

  • We also accept UT Select for GTAs, GRAs, TAs, RAs and Faculty/Staff (we MUST have a copy of your insurance card before we can claim your treatment charges). Unfortunately, we are unable to provide services to your family unless they also have faculty/staff employment status. If they are UTA students, we do provide services to them, but are not able to claim your insurance for treatment.

  • In our Pharmacy, we accept both the Student Insurance and the employee insurances for pharmaceuticals.

  • If you have another health insurance policy, we do not accept or claim it for you; however, if you submit your receipts to your insurance company, it is possible that they may reimburse you for out-of-pocket charges incurred at Health Services.

If you have any other insurance questions, please call the Administrative Office at 817-272-2771 or Human Resources Benefits Department at 817-272-5554. Click here for coverage details of the Student and Employee insurances.

Is my visit to the Health Center confidential?

  • Yes. All Health Center employees (including student workers) attend training to learn how to prevent breaches of confidentiality.
