Mission
The mission of UTA Mental Health Services is to provide quality, confidential psychological services to enhance academic success for the members of the UTA campus through preventive, therapeutic and consultive services.
The Health Center offers a variety of mental health services to students and faculty/staff. Individuals may receive help with problems in daily living or mental health concerns such as depression, stress, grief reactions, interpersonal problems, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders and psychoses. Appointments can be made with the office staff and no referral is necessary. Four hours advance notice for cancellations or rescheduling is required. A charge will be assessed to the patient's account when such notice is not provided. This fee is routinely assessed even in circumstances when a patient is rescheduling for a currently available appointment if the rescheduling requires cancellation of a session with less than 4 hours notice.
When indicated, psychological testing is available to help gain increased understanding about a patient's functioning. Psychiatric consultation is also available when questions concerning medication or hospitalization are an issue. Referrals to appropriate community mental health agencies or other professionals may also be made.
Treatment modalities are diverse and include work with individuals, groups, and couples within a variety of therapeutic frameworks. Nonstudent spouses or significant others may be seen in treatment with a student when such treatment is deemed efficient and effective. In addition, the Mental Health Services staff is available to University groups and classes for presentations and training sessions concerning mental health topics.
