The Masters' Program at UTA is specifically designed to meet the needs
of students from a variety of backgrounds with diverse career
commitments. The Department offers graduate courses in United States,
European, African, and Latin American history. Most courses are scheduled at night and students are welcome to enroll with full- or part-time status.
UTA's Transatlantic Doctoral Program offers a unique perspective on the history of the last 500 years. The program features a BA to PhD structure with an average time-to-degree of 7 years. In Fall 2010 the Department began to offer 4 to 6 competitive multi-year fellowships for incoming PhD students. Students spend their first two to three years focusing on the separate and interlaced histories of Africa, Latin America, Europe and North America. They work closely with over two dozen faculty members who approach history from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, including cultural, diplomatic, environmental, social and political history. The history of cartography is a prominent aspect of the program, and UTA has one of two endowed chairs in this subject in the United States.
