Dr. Stephanie Cole has served as the advisor for the History MA program since 2010. She received her PhD in 1994 from the University of Florida, and joined the faculty at UTA in 1996, after teaching at a variety of institutions and working with many different types of students. Her fields of specialization include US Women’s History, especially the history of women and work, as well as the history of gender, race, sex, and marriage. She’s written articles on domestic violence, interracial marriage, domestic service in the Old South and related subjects. Her most recent publication, a co-edited volume entitled Texas Women: Their Histories, Their Lives (University of Georgia Press, 2015) won the Liz Carpenter Prize for best book in Texas Women’s history from the Texas State Historical Association.

As the Department of History's M.A. advisor, she works to help students find the right fit for their graduate studies. Sometimes this means short discussions about the pros and cons of getting a certification in public history or archival administration or the trade-offs of writing a thesis versus building a portfolio. At other times, it’s just about navigating the tricky waters of application or graduation.

If you are looking for help in finding your right fit as a Master's student, please contact her to set a time to talk by phone, email, or in person.
