Admissions
| Admissions: How to Apply
There
are two minimum requirements before an applicant can be considered for
admission to the transatlantic Ph.D. program. First, applicants
are expected to have earned a B.A. degree in history or related
fields. We will also consider students who already acquired an MA
degree in history understanding that they might be asked to complete
leveling work. Second, the applicant must have a minimum
undergraduate GPA of 3.0. Students should also have a GRE verbal score
of at least 550 and an analytical writing score of at least 5 on the
GRE aptitude test. Successful applicants usually have higher testing
results than these minimum requirements. These test results will be
weighted in combination with the other materials the applicant
submits. The student should submit an application to the Graduate
School AND send a letter of intent, a writing sample, and three
letters of recommendation on his/her behalf directly to PhD Advisor in
the Department of History at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
The
admissions committee can grant unconditional admission and provisional
admission. An applicant unable to supply all required documentation
(e.g., official transcripts or GRE scores) prior to the admission
deadline but who otherwise appears to meet admission requirements may
be granted provisional admission. Provisionally admitted students must
provide any incomplete documentation by the end of the semester in
which they are admitted. If the applicant fails to do so, the student
will be dropped from the program. He or she may seek readmission when
provisional requirements are complete. An applicant whose performance, according to the criteria, approximates but does not meet minimum admission standards may be referred to the MA program in history for consideration. For more information, contact the Graduate Ph.D. Advisor, Department of
