Undergraduate Research Assistantships
About Undergraduate Research Assistantships

Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URAs) are intended to provide select Honors undergraduate students with hands-on research during the summer in any major discipline. Students work under faculty mentorship to gain important research skills and contribute to projects that are a vital part of the academic experience and provide a realistic foundation for advanced study.

For Summer 2012, the Honors College will award up to ten summer assistantships to Honors students in any major. Students may carry out supervised independent research or contribute to continuing research with a full-time faculty member at UT Arlington.

Conditions of Eligibility:
All Honors students who have completed 24 hours of coursework in good standing and are continuing their studies at UT Arlington are eligible to apply. Degreed undergraduates and those who have held an assistantship in previous years are not eligible to apply.

Terms of Appointment:
The assistantship appointments are for 25 hours per week during the 11-week summer semester. Students will be paid $10/hour. Students will be required to enroll in a three-hour research or independent study course during the summer.

Application Process:
Students must complete the application, which requires a personal statement and brief research proposal as part of the application. The research proposal must be prepared in collaboration with a full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty member at UT Arlington.

Selection Criteria:
A committee constituted by the Honors College will select recipients. Preference will be given to those who have:

  • developed a research proposal in collaboration with a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member at UT Arlington (faculty MUST be on campus during the summer);
  • clearly defined their research role and the overall significance of the research;
  • made timely progress toward the Honors degree; and
  • plans to attend graduate or professional schools.

Deadline:
Completed applications must be received in the Honors College, Room 108, by 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 23rd. You may email the application to ridingin@uta.edu. If you prefer, you may mail the application to:
