Apply to the Honors College

The Honors College application is presently closed for maintenance. During this time, if you are interested in applying, please write to us at honors @ uta.edu and we will notify you when the application is restored.

Requirements for Admission

Before you apply to the Honors College, you must be admitted to the university.

Candidates for admission to the Honors College must fulfill at least one of the following criteria depending on their classification:

Entering Freshmen:

  • Combined Evidence-Based Reading/Writing and Math SAT score of 1270
  • An ACT score of 27
  • Graduation within the upper 10% of your high school class (U.S. high schools only)
Note: Incoming freshman students who are in the UT Coordinated Admissions Program (CAP) are required to complete a minimum of 3 hours of Honors credits in their first semester and a minimum of 3 hours of Honors credits in their second semester. CAP students who are unable to meet these conditions will be dismissed from the Honors College. The Honors College will not admit CAP students who are in their second semester.

Current UT Arlington students:

  • A 3.35 cumulative Grade Point Average after 12 hours at UT Arlington and a minimum of sixty hours remaining in your degree plan.

Transfer students:

  • A 3.35 cumulative transfer Grade Point Average on a scale of 4.0 (the average GPA from all colleges attended prior to UT Arlington) and a minimum of sixty hours remaining in your degree plan.

The criteria above are minimums. Admission is not based solely on grades or scores. The Admissions Committee looks for evidence in the application of strong analytical skills and college-level writing ability; thus, a strong essay is an important consideration in the admissions process. Applicants will be notified of their status via an email to their MavMail account.

Instructions for filling out the application

The required essay and résumé must be uploaded as Adobe PDF documents. You need to complete your application in one online session. If a file is discarded or cannot be opened, the Honors College will make an effort to contact you by means of the contact information you provide in your application. Until all the materials are provided, your application will not be processed.
