Residence Hall Move In Event

About the Move-in Event

The Move-in Event is a campus-wide tradition to help residence hall students move into their new homes on opening day. More than 500 faculty, staff and student volunteers are on hand throughout the day to welcome students and parents. More importantly, they actually help new residents move their belongings into their rooms! That means more hands to carry stuff — which saves time and lets new residents focus on getting unpacked and settled in their new home.

Move-in day is an exciting day for everyone on campus.  The campus community springs back to the normal hustle and bustle as students return.  On move-in day, prepare to arrive in the morning when the temperature is cooler.  When you arrive, park in the designated lot (see map below) and visit the front desk first before brining anything inside the hall.  Once you get your keys and complete your check-in process, a volunteer will help gather volunteers to go to your vehicle and take your personal belongings to your new room.  We provide orange stickers to label your property with your new room number in case a volunteer loses track of you.  Once your volunteers drop off your belongings to your room, get settled in, meet your roommate/suitemates and neighbors, and begin your college experience with Maverick Stampede Welcome Week Activities!

Vandergriff Hall residents are notified a few days prior to move-in which floor and parking garage to park on.  Monitor your UTA email address for our special instructions prior to August 18.

All residents should order your parking permit online starting August 1.  Permits are mailed to your home prior to moving into the residence halls.  Be sure to bring it with you and check out the discounts from The Shops at College Park District that will come with your permit!

Where can I find volunteers?

Volunteers will be stationed at each residence hall, and they’ll be wearing Move-in Event t-shirts and wrist bands to identify themselves as helpers.

What’s the Benefit of moving in on Monday?

Help to move your stuff, of course! Volunteers will only available on Monday, August 18. Not to mention, there will be other great activities and incentives for those that move in early!

  • Residence hall parent orientation session provided by Residence Hall staff at 5:30 p.m. where parents meet the Residence Director.
  • Meet your roommates and neighbors, and attend the first welcome back event in your residence hall Monday evening.
  • Early move-in provides time on Monday to buy books and visit offices on campus like the parking office and Mav Express.
  • Be able to attend other Maverick Stampede welcome week events.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT MY ROOMMATE?

Roommate notifications will be sent out during the week of August 4 to your UTA email address.  We sometimes get last minute cancellations as students make their final preparation to start school and these changes may effect who your roommate will be.  Waiting until the first week of August allows us more confidence that your roommate provided will actually move into the residence hall.  Keep in mind though, we sometimes need to change roommates last minute.  If we do this, we make every attempt to notify you prior to move-in day.

WHAT COMES IN MY ROOM?

Each room and residence hall is slightly different.  We try to provide items listed in each location on the individual residence hall pages.  Check here first, and if you can't find the answer contact us via Live Chat.
