PURPOSE: To provide supervisory and technical services for overall operation, quality assurance, methodology and its processes in the clinical laboratory. Responsible for coordinating and scheduling personnel and workload, for ensuring compliance with all government and safety regulations and for accuracy of all data obtained and reported.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers personnel policies such as vacation, sick leave and performance evaluations for subordinate personnel. Coordinates workload for employees and resolves complex problems. Assures compliance with safety, quality control and other regulatory standards such as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act >88. Evaluates new methodology and updates test procedures as needed. Develops protocols and procedures for quality assurance. Establishes criteria for bid procedures. Interviews and evaluates applicants for professional laboratory positions. Evaluates laboratory procedures based upon cost of supplies and equipment to determine the most cost effective operation. Assumes responsibility for overall budgeting control and projections. Participates in proficiency testing as required by current federal laws. Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biology or chemistry and graduation from an approved school of medical technology, plus M.T. (ASCP) certification.
