PURPOSE: Perform and coordinate the provision of advanced or highly advanced interpreting works utilizing comprehensive or specialized skills with knowledge and practice of interpreter ethics. To coordinate the provision of interpreting services for the university student community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interprets (voice to sign or sign to voice) for hearing impaired individuals for the university student community. Coordinates all aspects of interpreter services for students, including recruiting, hiring and supervising full-time and/or part-time interpreters. Consults with faculty regarding service requests. Assists students in scheduling classes to facilitate provision of interpreter services. Provides deaf awareness education for the University community. Performs other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision with latitude for exercise of independent judgment. Periodic review by designated supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Direct supervision of Interpreter staff.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Certification by Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI level II). Bachelors degree in a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years of experience interpreting for deaf students in a four-year college or university, or Six years experience interpreting for deaf students in a two year college or vocational school. Fluency in American Sign Language and other sign systems. Knowledge of deaf culture and proficiency in both sign language and oral interpreting. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in all phases of work performed. Classroom, office, or on stage at graduations or university functions for students. Working conditions may be determined by the situation requiring Interpreting and may vary from the usual classroom or office environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with clients, supervisors and co-workers. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
