PURPOSE: To perform advanced or highly advanced interpreting work utilizing comprehensive or specialized skill with knowledge of interpreter ethics. To provide interpreting for students or employees with hearing impairments in academic or workplace situations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs comprehensive interpreting (voice to sign or sign to voice) for hearing impaired individuals in academic or employment settings. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision with latitude for exercise of independent judgement. Periodic review by designated supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or GED. Depending on the complexity or difficulty of work to be performed, Texas Commission for the Deaf (TCD) Certification Level III, IV, or V.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: None. Prefer three years of experience at the TCD Certification Level III. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: None. Accuracy in all phases of work performed. Classroom or office conditions. Working conditions may be determined by the situation requiring interpreting and may vary from the usual classroom or office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors and co-workers. Certification Level and rate of pay to be determined by the particular level of difficulty required in a given interpreting job. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
