PURPOSE: To assist pharmacist with technical and clerical duties not requiring professional judgment. Assist in preparation of medications for dispensing; perform clerical tasks related to purchasing medications, inventory management, and records maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Accept patient prescriptions, interpret prescriptions written in patients' medical charts, verify patient demographic information, verify patient insurance coverage, prepare labels and stock containers for pharmacist checking, and provide prescriptions to patients. Screen phone calls, receive prescription refill requests, return medications to stock when necessary, and sign out pseudoephedrine-containing medications as required by law. Screen pharmacy stock for out-of-date medications, assist in returns. Receive merchandise, check invoices, shelve merchandise, enter into computer inventory, and assist in maintaining purchase order database for purchasing department. Investigate insurance denials or insurance questions, file prescription hard copy records and maintain as required by law and run daily prescription reports. Assist in processing invoices for payment, filing controlled substance invoices, collection and reporting of monthly pharmacy statistics. Maintain general appearance of pharmacy, update pharmacy reference texts with monthly updates and assist with annual drug inventory. Performs related duties as required. Facilitate work flow and demands on pharmacist. Assist in ordering medications from vendors. Prepare labels and maintain appropriate records for prepackaging drugs for final check by pharmacist. Straighten and stock Over-The-Counter medications and bulk storage areas. Stock prescription vials, prescription labels, and papers for printer. Assist with cashier activities as needed, supervise Health Center cashier. Assist in clarifying medication issues with in-house providers. Assist in training of new pharmacy technicians.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school diploma or GED required. Successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam and current registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.
