PURPOSE: To provide professional nursing skills and leadership in the coordination and administration of the nursing process. Responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating nursing care for patients in an assigned area. Supervises and delegates patient care through auxiliary personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains standards of patient care as established by the Health Center Nursing Service and the nursing profession. Participates in professional nursing care of patients as required such as executing Health Center physician's orders for all assigned patients by safely and properly administering medications and treatments. Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times. Assesses patients understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teachings. Consults with medical staff, residence hall supervisors and student groups to determine concerns expressed by students regarding their health. Plans and presents timely, appropriate programs for students based on their information and keeps accurate records of these programs. Performs other related duties as required. Assumes Nursing Supervisor responsibilities in individual's absence.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from the Nursing Supervisor. Supervision as to project selection and program planning from the Chief of Staff. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General instructions to staff nurses when relieving the Supervisor.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in nursing and current Texas license.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Ability to work with standard health care facility equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Two years experience in the specialty area requested. Extremely accurate in following written and oral orders and in the dissemination of technical information. Usual health care facility conditions. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
