PURPOSE: To provide professional skills in the fields of psychology and social work involved in counseling. Responsible for counseling students and other clients in selected personal, educational, vocational and related problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the duties and responsibilities described for Counseling Specialist I, Code 3128, a Counseling Specialist II provides advanced skills in counseling and guidance. Assumes complete responsibility for the operation. Designs programs and activities that relate to academic and personal counseling. Provides academic skills assessment and prescribes developmental skill building. Monitors student progress and maintains detailed records. Plans and conducts seminars and workshops. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from Director. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May supervise tutors, clerical and student help.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology or psychology.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in special counseling settings or completion of field experience required for a Master's degree in social work. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of various assessment and development materials, testing equipment and use of personal computer. Must be accurate in administering and scoring tests, skilled in-group guidance techniques and in communication. General office conditions and may involve occasional travel and weekend work. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
