PURPOSE: To provide professional counseling skills in the fields of psychology and social work. Responsible for the utilization of specialized skills to counsel students and clients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides skilled vocational, educational, personal and social counseling for students, both individually and in groups.  Administers and scores vocational and personality tests.  Utilizes techniques to enhance client self-esteem and motivation.  Works with students toward realistic goal development.  Records and maintains progress files on student clients.  Plans, develops and conducts seminars and workshops.  Performs developmental skills building, academic skills training, assessment and prescription.  Performs related duties as required. Participates in informative college programs on campus and in the community.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: May supervise Peer Counselors, Tutors and clerical and student workers. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Broad instructions from the Director.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Master's degree or equivalent in social work, sociology, clinical or counseling psychology, or counseling and guidance.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in a special counseling setting. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have knowledge of psychometric standards and procedures, various tests and testing equipment.  Knowledge of personal computer. Accuracy in scoring and interpreting test results and information of UTA policies and procedures. General office conditions. May involve occasional travel and weekend work. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
