PURPOSE: To provide advanced professional counseling skills in the fields of psychology and social work. Responsible for utilizing specialized skills to counsel students and other clients with complex personal, educational, vocational, or related problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Counsels individually as well as in groups.  Formulates and diagnoses individual problems and suggests remedial treatment.  Assists clients with complex career, personal, social and walk-in counseling.  Selects, administers and interprets individual and group tests.  Assists in coordinating statistical data and reports.  Performs related duties as required. Assists in providing staff development for office personnel is a vital factor, in the success of this position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision by the Director of Counseling, who provides evaluation and review and Career Development.  SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision and ongoing training to Counseling Specialist II and Counseling Specialist III, as well as interns and student workers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Master's degree or equivalent in social work, sociology, clinical or counseling psychology, or counseling and guidance.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in a special counseling setting. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in all phases of counseling, testing and interpretation of clients problems. Excellent.
