PURPOSE: To plan and coordinate programs, services, and activities for international and/or domestic students, faculty, and staff to widen their international experience and to increase their understanding of diverse cultures. May be responsible for a variety of areas including, but not limited to, immigration advising, cultural adjustment, programming, study abroad or a combination thereof, depending upon need of the Office of International Education and educational/professional background of the applicant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and coordinate activities related to international education programs and services to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff. Serve as liaison with various University departments, on and off campus organizations, sponsoring agencies, local and national officials. Report status of these activities to supervisor. Performs related duties as required. Participates in some professional conferences as well as individual professional development.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Minimal supervision from Director or Assistant Director. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervision to International Education Advisors, and work flow assignments for support staff and student employees.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Master's degree in social science, humanities, education or other area with international emphasis.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five (5) years' working experience in international education and overseas living, working or study experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency may be required. Knowledge of current immigration visa regulations. Ability to interact with personnel with diverse cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of visa requirements and restrictions. Ability to complete and properly file immigration forms. Ability to work independently with little supervision and instructions. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with federal and state agencies to assist foreign nationals with visa options and/or restrictions prior to employment. Possess knowledge of immigration and tax related matters with regard to international students and scholars. Working knowledge of computers, including current office software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, email, and presentation. Interpreting federal regulations to faculty and administrators and conversely interpreting institutional rules and federal regulations to students, staff, and faculty. General office conditions with the addition of field trips and extracurricular activities. Interaction with individuals and groups and occasionally during and beyond usual working hours. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
