PURPOSE: To provide supervisory and advanced animal husbandry skills with respect to the care and management of special animal breeding colonies. Responsible for the development and maintenance of colonies of laboratory animals for experimental needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for supervision over the current health of animals as instructed by a veterinarian, as well as animal care and janitorial services, as needed. Responsible for the procurement of supplies, equipment and assistance with animals. Conducts breeding programs, animal population counts and maintains colony records as well as inventory. Assists in planning future needs of the center. Assists in preparation of reports and cost analysis. Coordinates routine work assignments and assumes responsibility for completion of those assignments. Cooperates with maintenance personnel in both routine and emergency maintenance of physical and environmental control-related aspects of the animal facility. Performs related duties as required. Minor assistance in surgical and diagnostic procedures on animals. Performs additional duties requested by Biology and Psychology Chairpersons.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Two years of college with course work in the biological sciences. Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or equivalent.
