PURPOSE: To provide skilled assistance in connection with the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of scientific, electronic or mechanical equipment. Responsible for organizing, directing and assigning specific projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains repairs and troubleshoots laboratory instruments, personal computers and communication systems. Repairs and calibrates test equipment such as oscilloscopes, frequency counters and digital multimeters. Fabricates electronic/mechanical prototypes and casings. Maintains inventory of necessary parts and repair items. Performs related duties as required. Estimates repair charges and tracks work flow for technical work performed. Assists with budget preparation.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision received on overall effectiveness. Limited review of work during operations. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises less skilled technicians/assistants as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation supplemented by two years of college.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of experience in developmental or industrial engineering, including mechanical or electronic fabrication. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Scientific instruments, computers and necessary hand tools. Proficiency in all phases of work performed. Proper safety precautions are required to insure safe conditions. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
