PURPOSE: To provide supervisory and technical work in connection with the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of scientific or mechanical equipment. Responsible for organizing, directing and assigning specific projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries on various development projects and applies mechanical or scientific engineering techniques to medical research problems. Operates machine tools and scientific instruments. Performs technical work on layout and assembly of component mechanical and scientific apparatus. Works on equipment involving electricity sheet metal work, soldering, and machining. Repairs and sharpens tools, drills, bits, dies, and milling cutters. Performs related work as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision by superior who may also act as a consultant on any problems, which arise. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises and instructs technicians in the operation, maintenance, and repair of scientific equipment

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of experience in developmental or industrial engineering including instrument fabrication. Three years of related experience with two years of college. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Electronic test equipment and skill in the use of drills, milling machines, lathes, tool grinders, and related machine-shop equipment. Proficiency in all phases of work performed. Good.
