PURPOSE: To provide assistance in medical/research laboratory. Responsible for the performance of routine repetitive tasks in the preparation of laboratory supplies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs standard laboratory experiments. Assists in preparation of research specimens. Assembles and operates laboratory and field equipment. Assists in positioning, weighing and assisting in procedures with experimental animals. Collects and records data and performs mathematical tasks involved in summarizing results of experiments (may include statistical, numerical or multi-variant analysis, operation of calculator or adding machine and related clerical functions. Labels and files slides. Cuts and shapes glass tubing. Prepares chemical compounds, reagents and culture media. Develops, prints and enlarges film data. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Usually, specific instructions received on all new projects or procedures and general supervision received on the more routine duties. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or equivalent. Completion of college level courses, which are related to the work to be performed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: None. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: None. Proficiency is required in the preparation of materials and specimens and recording of research data. Standard laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials or in hazardous environments. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
