PURPOSE: To perform entry-level professional engineering and scientific research assignment related to a particular field of work. Responsible for evaluation, selection and application of standard engineering or scientific techniques used in routine research.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Makes and records observations and measurements. Compiles data, sets up and operates apparatus or equipment, and analyzes samples. Inspects minor fabrication, erection, or assembly for conformance to specifications. Conducts specified phases of research projects. Performs related duties as assigned. Collects and organizes information for various reports.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Specific instructions on assignment objectives and possible solutions from project director. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May supervise the work of technicians or research assistants.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in the field of assignment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: None. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve working with hazardous equipment or materials. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
