PURPOSE: To perform engineering or scientific duties requiring special qualifications or attainments with wide latitude for independent action and decision. Responsible for complex or unusual research assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of one or more parts of a research project. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Supervises and assists in preparation of specifications. Assumes responsibility for acceptance or rejection of results achieved. Determines additional equipment required for the research project and ensures that it is compatible with existing machinery. Supervises the installation and operation of the equipment, providing technicians and/or machinists with clear concise drawings for equipment that is to be fabricated. Prepares and presents to the project director such written reports as he may require. Performs related duties as required.
