PURPOSE: To plan, direct and supervise the work of a major unit engaged in research, investigation or other technical operations. Responsible for the direction of a research program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares proposals to supporting agencies. Acts as liaison officer between agencies and research department. Selects key research personnel. Determines results desired by the project. Suggests procedures to be used to attain desired results. Coordinates and reviews the work of research staff. Submits project results to departmental director. Performs related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Receive general instructions on procedures for initiating and directing a special research project. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Instruct key members of staff regarding goals desired and possible methods or procedures to use in achieving these goals.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Ph.D. degree with major course work in the field of assignment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year related research experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve working with hazardous equipment. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
