PURPOSE: To plan, direct and supervise the work of a major unit engaged in research, investigation or other technical operations. Responsible for direction and supervision of a research program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares proposals for supporting agencies. Acts as liaison officer between agencies and research department. Selects key research personnel. Determines results desired by the project. Suggests procedures to be used to attain desired results. Coordinates and reviews the work of research staff. Submits project results to departmental director. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Receive general instructions on procedures for initiating and directing a special research project. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Instruct key members of staff regarding goals desired and possible methods or procedures to use in achieving these goals.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Ph.D. degree with major course work in field of assignment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years related research experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge to use and design specialized research equipment as required by the project. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve working with hazardous equipment. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
