PURPOSE: To perform highly skilled and technical supervisory work involving the construction, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers and personally participating in technical work of a highly specialized nature.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries on projects in development; investigation, research and/or services as may be required, applying highly technical knowledge to the area of specialization. Develops modifications for improvement of existing equipment and/or establishes new methods for improvement of procedures and systems. Instruct employees in the operation and/or maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. Plans and coordinates the work of the staff. Submits project result to the director. Performs related duties as required. Participates in technical conferences and project planning. Acts as a consultant on specific highly technical or complex projects.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervisory review of over-all effectiveness of a particular work group. Specific when an unusual project is involved. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Close supervision of skilled and semi-skilled workers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years of experience in the construction and maintenance of equipment or apparatus of the type related to the position. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency and accuracy in all duties performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to scientific hazards in some departments. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
