PURPOSE: To provide architectural and supervisory skills for planning and coordinating repair, remodeling and construction projects. Responsible for planning, supervising and inspecting new construction and construction involved in remodeling present buildings, improvements to grounds and general repair and maintenance of the Physical Plant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare plans, specifications and estimates. Coordinate building policies, designs, methods and procedures. Compose detailed sketches and complete architectural plans for major repairs or remodeling work for campus buildings. Perform specification work in connection with the hiring of private contracts for the major repair and alteration of existing structures. Prepares detailed cost estimates. Consult with departmental officials and commercial architectural personnel on architectural design, use of materials, construction methods and other requirements. Inspect construction work under contract for conformity with plans, specifications and good building practice. Perform related work as required. May supervise preparation of bid advertisement, inspection for bid conformance with departmental requirements and make recommendations on bid awards; may plan with consulting architects.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision of an advisory and consulting nature received from the Director of Physical Plant. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervise architectural assistants and draftsmen as may be assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in architecture.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of experience in architectural design and inspection. Must be registered by the Texas State Board of Architectural Examiners. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Standard equipment used by architects. Exacting accuracy required in all phases of building activities and supervisory duties. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to the elements of weather and construction site hazards. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
