PURPOSE: To supervise and coordinate the activities of the Automotive Shop in the Physical Plant. Responsible for planning and coordinating skilled and semi-skilled workers performing various vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises, assigns, schedules, and inspects work of mechanic6 performing maintenance on motor vehicles and machine equipment. Maintains inspection and maintenance records on all University vehicles and schedules maintenance and inspection as needed. Orders or requisitions supplies and equipment. Interviews employees and recommends full time appointments. Maintains various cost records. Approves time cards and work sheets. Bills department for parts and labor. Performs related duties as required. Assists with preparation of annual and other reports.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from the Assistant Director of Physical Plant. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General and specific instructions to skilled and semi-skilled automotive shop employees.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Seven years experience in automotive repair, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Valid Texas drivers license required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Skill in the use of tools, equipment and machines related to automotive repair. Proficient in all phases of work performed in the shop. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to mechanical hazards and outside weather conditions. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
