PURPOSE: To provide advanced journeyman level installation, maintenance and service of electrical systems. Responsible for prompt performance of assigned electrical and related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Installs new electrical services to buildings and extends old services.  Installs, maintains and repairs electric motors, transformers, generators, control panels, switches, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings and accessories.  Installs conduit or tubing.  Installs, maintains and repairs bell and buzzer systems, clock circuits, magnetic starters, light fixtures, flood and streetlights.  Replaces light bulbs.  Rebuilds electric motors.  Splices wires and high voltage cables.  Tests circuits.  Performs related duties as assigned. Perform duties of Electrical Supervisor during his/her absence.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Specific written or oral instructions from Electrical Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision of subordinates personnel during absence of Electrical Supervisor.


REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduate or equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of skilled/journeyman level electrical experience including one year in a supervisory capacity.  Journeyman electrical license or ability to obtain license within first year of employment required. Valid Texas drivers license required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of electrical switchgear, motors, test equipment, general types of electrical equipment. Must be accurate in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions, energized electrical equipment and high voltage equipment. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.  Safety precautions are extremely important around high voltage equipment.  Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
