PURPOSE: To provide supervisory skills to plan, organize, and direct grounds care and maintenance. Responsible for the maintenance and general beautification of all grounds including floral gardens, landscaped areas and rough areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises landscaping, seeding, weeding, cultivating, pruning, spraying, and transplanting of a large variety of shrubs and trees. Supervises the removal of leaves, grass, dirt, and rubbish from grounds. Requisitions and distributes materials and equipment for grounds maintenance work. Plans and supervises operation of a greenhouse. Interviews and hires suitable applicants for employment. Maintains employee time and attendance records. Performs related duties as required. Prepares sketches for development, improvement, or expansion of landscaped areas. Coordinates work with proposed building and construction plans. Prepares reports of work performed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from a superior. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Detailed instructions and supervision of subordinates.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Seven years of experience in grounds care and maintenance, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Valid Texas drivers license required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power lawn mowers, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. Accuracy in developing and maintaining an efficient and workable landscaping program. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involve exposure to outside weather conditions, hazardous mechanical equipment and occasional lifting of heavy objects. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
