PURPOSE: To provide technical and supervisory skills in planning, organizing and directing the maintenance of grounds. Responsible for the maintenance and general beautification of all grounds including gardens, landscaped areas and parking areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Mows grass, trims shrubs, trims and cuts trees, replaces dead plants hauls dirt and fertilizes. Trims and edges sidewalks, driveways and flowerbeds. Cuts weeds and brush, and removes leaves and rubbish from the grounds. Waters shrubbery, hedges, seedlings flowers and grass. Assists in potting plants and transplanting shrubs, plants, trees and flowers. Seeds, plants, sods, grades, and cuts lawns. Keeps grounds clean and reports broken or leaking hydrants. Packs and maintains football fields, baseball diamonds, and intramural fields. Lines fields and tracks. Cleans and maintains tools equipment, materials, and supplies. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Works under general supervision of Groundskeeper III or Leader. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Ability to read, and write and be able to understand and communicate instructions.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year of experience in grounds maintenance. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate power tools. Physical strength and agility needed to perform assigned tasks. May be required to have a valid Texas Operators License. Capable of following instructions. Knowledge of the practices and techniques for the proper care of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involve exposure to outside weather conditions, hazardous mechanical equipment and occasional lifting of heavy objects. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
