PURPOSE: To care for grass, plants, and trees and to maintain the equipment used. Responsible for skilled maintenance of grass, plants, and trees including determining and applying treatment to unhealthy plants. Operates and repairs grounds care equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the duties described for Groundskeeper II (5425), the Groundskeeper III inspects for pests, diseases, or other deteriorating agents and takes necessary steps for their eradication. Operates and effects minor repairs on a wide variety of equipment, including the sprinkler system. Drives large trucks, tractors and mowers and provides technical assistance within area of responsibility. Sprays trees with large power equipment. May supervise work in greenhouse. Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Works independently with general supervision of overall effectiveness. May be assigned specific projects. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May occasionally supervise and train Groundskeepers I and II.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Ability to read, write and work basic arithmetic.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in the care of plants, trees, and lawns and knowledge of the operation and repair of grounds equipment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Skill in the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power lawn mowers, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. May be required to have a valid Texas Operators License. Considerable accuracy in the care and treatment of plants, trees, etc., and in the operation and repair of ground equipment. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but involve exposure to outside weather conditions, hazardous mechanical equipment and occasional lifting of heavy objects. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
