PURPOSE: To provide overall supervision in the maintenance, inspection, repair and operation of the buildings and utilities. Responsible for the operation of the heating plant, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical system, plumbing and other utility services.  In addition, the work includes the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment buildings and care of the grounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and performs the repair of plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.  Assigns work to subordinates, outlining and explaining work to be done.  Inspects complete jobs.  Estimates time and materials required for a job.  Initiates requisitions for supplies and equipment.  Supervises and assists in preventive maintenance on all equipment.  May supervise building attendants in cleaning of hallways, lounges, stairways and other general building areas.  May interview and hire employees.  Performs related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Supervises all subordinates.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Seven years of skilled/journeyman level experience in maintenance and plant operation including one year in a supervisory capacity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: May require EPA Refrigerant Certification OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Refrigeration, air conditioning and heating.  Considerable knowledge of electrical systems. Accuracy in the use of tools and equipment. Subject to the working conditions of any of the trade areas involved. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.  Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
