PURPOSE: To provide advanced journeyman level skills to perform painting. Responsible for preparing surfaces for painting, applying paints to machinery, equipment and interiors and exteriors of buildings by brush roller and/or spray gun.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Scrape, sandpaper and size surfaces preparatory to painting.  Mix blend, match and apply paints, varnishes, shellacs, enamels and other finishes.  Erect and rig scaffolds.  Cover surfaces and furniture to protect from paint.  Remove spattered paint after job is completed.  Clean and care for brushes, spray guns and other equipments.  Tape, bed and texture drywall surfaces.  Apply and/or repair vinyl or other wall coverings.  Repair drywall.  Perform related duties as assigned. Perform duties of Painter Supervisor during his/her absence.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Specific written or oral instructions from Painter Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision of subordinate personnel during absence of Painter Supervisor.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High School Graduation or 3 years experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of skilled/journeyman level painter experience including one year in a supervisory capacity.  Valid Texas drivers license required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Skill in applying paints and other finishes with spray machines and in use of tools of painting trade. Must be accurate in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions, standing on ladders and scaffolds. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.  Safety precautions are extremely important around high voltage equipment.  Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
