PURPOSE: This position provides journey-level skills performing maintenance and repair of heating and power plant equipment, central chilling station equipment, building mechanical equipment, and swimming pool and fountain equipment. Responsibilities include the mechanical maintenance and repair of boilers, turbo generators, condensers, pumps, compressors, chemical feeders, filters, meters, and related equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties: Lubricate and replace motor and fan bearings. Repair housekeeping equipment, clocks and electric tools. Check motor loads and record minor currents and voltages. Maintains and repairs work covering motor repair and maintenance. Repairs and maintains electric motor operated equipment. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all electrical and mechanical equipment, which is part of the facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under general instructions from assigned supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Provides general supervision to assigned maintenance workers or helpers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school diploma or 3 years experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Three years of skilled/ journeyman-level experience in the maintenance and repair of power plant equipment. Valid Texas drivers license required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Considerable knowledge of all tools and equipment as required. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards. Sometimes works near high-pressure boilers, high voltage motors and generator, high-speed turbines and compressors. Due to hazardous emergency conditions and the necessity for continuous supply of electricity and steam to the campus, Power Plant employees with this job title must have a telephone, must have transportation immediately available, and must live within 30 minutes driving time of the Power Plant when driving at speeds not to exceed the legal speed limits. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and to others. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
