PURPOSE: To provide semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, remodeling, repair and servicing of plumbing systems. Responsible for prompt performance of assigned plumbing and related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists journeyman plumber in accomplishing the following duties: installs pipes, sinks, traps, washbowls, toilet fittings, drains, special laboratory sinks and drain tables; repairs and maintains valves, faucets, traps, sinks and vents. Performs related duties as required. Assists in the following duties: Connects hot water heaters, gas heaters, furnaces and tests for safety. Repairs sewer pipes. Unstops clogged lines. Performs minor carpentry, digging and cleanup duties related to the assignment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Direct instructions from a journey-level plumber or other supervisory personnel. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High School graduation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One year of semi-skilled plumbing experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Capable of using wrenches, pipe-cutting and threading tools, metal saws, gauges and pressure equipment used for checking leaks and related equipment. Accuracy commensurate with progress. Working conditions are considered to be satisfactory. Outdoor work in trenches and under buildings. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
